What To Expect

The sport of fishing is never a sure thing.  While I will do everything I can to put you on some good fish there is no guarantee you won't come back from your trip empty handed.  Channel cat trips and Little Buddy trips will have a much lower chance of coming home empty handed.

We do not keep trophy catfish on my guide trips.  We measure and weigh them, take some pics and video, and then we release them to catch them another day.  Trophy status is dictated by Fish Ohio standards.  If you catch a trophy on one of my trips, I will register it for you and email you a printable Fish Ohio Certificate from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Fish Ohio Registry.  You are more than welcome to keep non-trophy channel cats and any other species you may catch as long as they are legal to harvest and within their legal limit.  I will even help you fillet them and make sure you are transporting them in a legal manner.

You will need a valid Ohio Fishing License and very little else.  I will provide the rods, the bait, and the tackle along with ice, a cooler, and water.  You will want to bring some snacks and sodas.  Dry boxes will be provided for wallets and cell phones.

You will be outside and exposed to the elements so you will need to check the weather and dress accordingly.  I will provide a thermacell to help keep mosquitoes away from the boat, but you may want to bring bug spray. You will want to bring a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.  It is a good idea to have a cooler in your car for taking home fillets.

Fishing is an outdoor sport, and I will not cancel due to rain or cold but will cancel for storms, extreme heat and any unsafe inclement weather that could put us at risk.  If the trip is cancelled, you will be given a refund of your down payment unless you choose to pick another date.

If you're doing a camp trip then tents, sleep pads, sleeping bags, and cooking gear will be provided.  Tents and sleeping pads are cleaned after each trip and sleeping bags are laundered.  You will want to bring a change of clothes and a pillow.  To conserve space, make sure everything you bring fits into a backpack.  I recommend bringing sandals or river shoes because we will be sandbar camping and you may need to wade out into the water to release a fish.

If there is space on the boat, we will bring firewood and have a fire.  If there isn't space for firewood we will do our best to scavenge some when we get to our spot.

I will provide an entree meat (vacuum sealed from the butcher or grocery store) and buns for dinner and instant coffee for the morning.  You will want to bring chips or additional snacks.  We will not be making breakfast in the morning but will break down camp and head back to the ramp by nine am.  That should leave plenty of time for you to have a good diner breakfast.

Above all else fishing is a process and I will do my best to make the entire process an enjoyable and memorable experience.  If we are on a trophy trip just understand that I will put you in the best position that I can for an opportunity to land a special fish, but it doesn't happen every time.  So make sure you aren't entirely focused on just catching a big fish but take time to look around, enjoy the scenery, listen to the sounds, and just enjoy the vibe of being out there.

No matter how it turns out, take it as a learning experience and feel free to steal all my secrets and tricks and apply them in your own fishing strategies...I will be disappointed if you don't.
